As a responsible corporate citizen, Sedgwick is committed to the communities where our colleagues and clients live and operate. We partner with and contribute to organizations that provide sustainable solutions for the social, health and educational needs of our communities.
Taking care of people is at the heart of everything we do. At Sedgwick, this includes supporting our communities through a combination of volunteering, sharing of expertise and monetary support. We pay particular attention to the following areas:

Local impact
Our caring counts℠ philosophy begins at home. Each Sedgwick office has an activity committee charged with developing programs that engage colleagues, foster teambuilding, and generate goodwill. The activity committees create valuable leadership opportunities, bring our teams closer together and allow us to positively impact our communities – all while benefiting local charities.
Our committees organize colleague activities that support people in need, such as:

  •  Local food bank support
  •  Military care packages
  •  Holiday gift drives
  • Nonprofit home care services for the homebound
  • Support for children’s programs and hospitals

Industry initiatives

 

 

 

The mission of Kids’ Chance of America is to help children who have had a parent or guardian suffer a work-related catastrophic or fatal injury. Kids’ Chance is based in the United States and is currently active in 36 states. Sedgwick assists Kids’ Chance in identifying scholarship applicants and helping to build national awareness of Kids' Chance. We also provide financial support on a state-by-state basis. Please note: although Sedgwick is deeply committed to the Kids’ Chance organization, we do not have any influence or role in its scholarship selections, approvals or dissemination of funds.

 

 

 

 












 

Sedgwick has been a long-time sponsor of the RIMS annual conference and participates in community service projects coordinated as part of the event.
  • In 2017, we donated $10,000 to the Literacy Education and Resource Network (LEARN), a free, online knowledge management system that provides early grade educators with access to professional development resources offered by the Philadelphia-based Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI).
  • In 2016, Sedgwick’s colleagues were moved into action when they saw and experienced the homeless crisis in San Diego. Sedgwick identified the Alpha Project as an organization that fulfills our corporate social responsibility mission of providing sustainable solutions to communities for their social, health and educational needs. We donated $10,000 for the Alpha Project to continue providing proactive, essential and meaningful services to individuals and families who are homeless and/or impacted by mental illness.

 

 

 







 

The Spencer Educational Foundation is the premier organization awarding scholarships and grants in risk management and insurance, and facilitates internships and educational opportunities.
  • Since its inception in 2015, Sedgwick has sponsored the Annual Spencer Educational Foundation 5K Fun Runs at the RIMS Annual Conference, raising over $150,000 for industry scholarship programs.
  • We also recently pledged $100,000 to the Spencer Educational Foundation over three years to establish the Steven E. Penman Memorial Scholarship in tribute to our company’s late chief operating officer. The merit-based Sedgwick/Penman scholarship will, beginning in 2018, be awarded annually to one undergraduate college student of risk management, insurance, actuarial science or business who meets the foundation’s eligibility guidelines.
 


Annual Workers’ Compensation Institute conference
The Workers’ Compensation Institute (WCI) is a nonprofit educational organization that serves as a comprehensive industry resource. Sedgwick is among the sponsors of the annual WCI Educational Conference, and has joined WCI for the last four years in supporting the conference’s annual charity efforts for Give Kids the World Village.

 Red Cross
During the 2016 holiday season, Sedgwick was honored to give the gift of hope by supporting the mission of the Red Cross, including the American Red Cross, British Red Cross, Canadian Red Cross and Irish Red Cross.
We “rolled up our sleeves” and donated blood in our communities, supported people impacted by disasters, and our U.S. colleagues participated in the “Thank a Soldier” program. Each office received emergency preparedness information in case of an emergency. Sedgwick also made a $50,000 donation to support the organization’s efforts to help people in need.

 

 

 e-NABLE
In 2015, Sedgwick’s holiday campaign focused on supporting e-NABLE, a global community that matches humanitarians who have access to 3D printers with individuals who have upper limb deficiencies.
Prior holiday campaigns have benefitted St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Medical Center, Kids’ Chance and Iraq Star.

Getting active for a cause 

 

 

 

 

 
Sedgwick supports a culture of health and well-being and is committed to fostering a healthy workforce. In May 2017, Sedgwick colleagues participated in a 70,000 mile wellness challenge to support the Given Limb Foundation. Participants walked and ran throughout the month and tracked their mileage and Sedgwick donated $15,000 to the cause.
The organization is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with amputations or diminished use of their limbs, particularly our wounded military, through program support, adaptive accommodations and outreach. In conjunction with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Amputee Coalition, the Given Limb Foundation adapts vehicles by buying and paying for the installation of floor-mounted hand controls and other equipment.

Natural disaster and community crisis relief

At Sedgwick, we take care of people in their time of need every day. Our compassionate colleagues also go beyond to help those impacted by natural disasters or traumatic events. Below are some examples of their efforts:
  • When flooding devastated the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, community in August of 2016, Sedgwick responded. Sedgwick collaborated with the Baton Rouge Area Foundation to establish a colleague assistance fund where colleagues could apply for financial assistance. Offices came together to raise $30,579 for their fellow colleagues impacted by the flooding.
  • Sedgwick donated $25,000 to the One Orlando Fund to the people impacted by the tragic shooting at the Pulse nightclub to help them rebuild their lives.
