At Sedgwick, we believe in giving back to the communities in which we work and live, and we encourage our colleagues to share in this spirit. On national and local levels, our company – supported by our colleagues’ generous time and efforts – strives to make an impact.
Lend a Hand to a Superhero
Our 2015 holiday campaign shed a light on the Enable Community Foundation
, and their volunteer network. e-NABLE is creating open source devices for children and adults with upper limb differences who need a prosthetic hand. Sedgwick donated $50,000 in honor of our business partnerships. Learn more about the campaign and the foundation here
Voice in the Community
In Fall 2014, Sedgwick launched an exciting companywide community engagement effort called Voice in the Community. We partnered with a cause-based clothing company and purchased custom-designed Voice in the Community t-shirts. Our 12,000 colleagues had the opportunity to buy a shirt, and each colleague got to choose where to direct the money from their purchase: to their office activity committee to support local community service projects, or to one of three national charities. Additionally, for each Voice in the Community t-shirt sold, our vendor donated a school uniform shirt to a student in an under-resourced area. In total, our generous colleagues raised almost $44,000! Thanks to the efforts of our activity committees, more than $9,500 was distributed to non-profits throughout the U.S. We also raised nearly $6,000 for Feeding America, more than $6,200 for Toys for Tots and nearly $22,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. With 100% of funds collected through the t-shirt sales going directly to charity, this initiative has truly been a win-win. We have designated Friday, April 24, 2015 as Voice in the Community Day!
Sedgwick Smiles for St. Jude
Our 2014 holiday card campaign was devoted to brightening the lives of the brave children of St. Jude. We invited our colleagues, clients, vendors and friends to “embrace their inner child” and share photos reflecting the joys of childhood and the holiday season. Sedgwick committed to making a donation to St. Jude, up to $50,000, for each photo uploaded. We received nearly 250 photos and more than 1,750 views of our submission page and smile gallery. Our #sedgwicksmiles4stjude campaign helped to raise awareness about the life-saving work of St. Jude and brought smiles to the faces of all who participated.
In April 2014, we had the unique opportunity to visit St. Jude in Memphis, Tenn. – and present a check to the hospital for more than $71,000. That donation includes Sedgwick’s holiday campaign gift and the monies raised by our colleagues through Voice in the Community. Our Most Valued Performer honorees joined members of our executive team at St. Jude for the check presentation, a tour of the magnificent campus and packing food bags for the families of children being treated there. It means so much to us to be part of St. Jude’s groundbreaking work to eradicate childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases.
Kids' Chance of America
Sedgwick is committed to improving the lives of those who have been affected by workplace injuries through our partnership with Kids’ Chance of America
. Founded in 1988, this national organization works with its state branches and other similar programs to provide educational opportunities and scholarships for the children of workers seriously injured or killed on the job. Over 3,000 scholarships have been awarded to date. Read their latest newsletter here
On a national level, Sedgwick helps support the mission on the partner advisory council. Many of our key executives serve on the Kids’ Chance of America board and support state boards in similar capacities. For more information about Kids’ Chance of America or to make a donation, please click here
During the 2012 holiday season, Sedgwick enlisted our clients, colleagues, partners and friends in a social media campaign, resulting in a donation of $50,000 to Kids’ Chance.
In Sedgwick offices around the country, colleagues participate in local fundraising activities, and assist in identifying scholarship recipients. Our office in Michigan was recently recognized by the Michigan state chapter president at an association function for their support, see photo below. Coming together after the storm
When Hurricane Sandy recently struck the eastern seaboard, it hit close to home, with many of our own directly impacted. Local offices met a corporate challenge by coming together to raise money for relief organizations like the American Red Cross
. Sedgwick matched colleague donations of $25,000.
A holiday project with heroic ambitions
In December 2011, Sedgwick reached out to clients, colleagues, friends and family to support Iraq Star
, an organization devoted to helping wounded American heroes regain their pre-war lives. We donated $1 for each view of our tribute to the troops video, totally thousands.
Funded by the company, each Sedgwick office has a colleague activity committee charged with developing programs that engage colleagues, foster team-building, and generate goodwill. The activity committees create valuable leadership opportunities, bring our teams closer together and allow us to positively impact our communities – all while benefiting local charities.
