Tropical Depression 8
Forecasters are predicting that this tropical depression could strengthen into Tropical Storm Hanna and begin impacting a portion of the Gulf Coast on Friday. Heavy rains are expected along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the lower Texas coast Thursday into Saturday — with potential to result in flash flooding and minor river flooding.
Meanwhile, Douglas strengthened into the first major hurricane of the 2020 season. Positioned in the middle of the East Pacific Ocean, it's not expected to impact land through at least Saturday. However, area shipping interests should be on alert for gusty winds, downpours and rough seas. It's possible that Douglas could move toward Hawaii by the beginning of Sunday with potential to cause strong winds, dangerous surf and heavy rainfall.
Tropical Storm Gonzalo
This tropical storm formed on Wednesday in the central Atlantic Basin and was initially expected to stay a tropical storm. However, the National Hurricane Center's forecast now shows increased chances that it will become a hurricane Thursday night or Friday, before approaching the southern Caribbean by the end of the week. A hurricane watch is in effect for the islands of Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
