The northeast coast is bracing for severe weather today after 39 reported tornados devastated several states — spanning more than 1,200 miles from Texas to North Carolina and leading to at least 19 fatalities. Hundreds of homes and buildings were damaged across several states. And, authorities reported that the severe weather caused flooding and mudslides in mountainous areas overnight and left about 750,000 people without power in a 10-state area stretching from Texas to Georgia up to West Virginia. Weather authorities are concerned for potential destructive wind gusts and tornados from central Virginia into central and eastern parts of the Carolinas and southeastern Georgia to cause more destruction today.
