CAT response services: Indonesia’s most active volcano erupts

Indonesia's Mount Merapi volcano on Java island erupted on Wednesday, sending up a cloud of ash and prompting authorities to warn of the risk of lava flows reaching roads. Late-week downpours could increase the danger in the region.

There have also been several earthquakes reported across the country, including a 4.8 magnitude earthquake occurring near southern Sumatra on Wednesday. No deaths have been reported due to the blast as of Wednesday evening, local time. Merapi’s last major eruption in 2010 killed 347 people.
