Mr. Willis started volunteering at Sierra Fire department in his home town of Roswell, NM in 2011. He volunteered there until he left to pursue his college degree in 2013. During his time at Sierra, he trained on and performed structural and wildland fire suppression, HAZMAT operations and emergency medicine.
Since 2011 Mr. Willis has had no less than 150 days of on the line Wildland fire fighting experience. He has suppressed, monitored and aided in the investigation of fires in wilderness areas, forests, deserts and the wildland urban interface. His experience is spread across 5 seasons and 4 crews including; engine, hand crew and helitack.
Mr. Willis joined the Army National Guard as an Infantryman in 2014. He has served as a rifleman, Operations Assistant and currently as a machine gunner in C. CO. 1-157 (MTN). In 2016 Mr. Willis was employed by the Eastern Kentucky University Fire and Safety Laboratory as a laboratory technician. While working for EKU in the Fire and Safety Laboratory Mr. Willis assisted in fire science research, construction of fire science research facilities and equipment, suppression of burn building cells used for training investigations and the facilitation of student learning through labs.
Mr. Willis became a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator with the National Association of Fire Investigators and graduated EKU with his Bachelor of Science in Fire, Arson and Explosion Investigation (Cum Laude) in 2017.
