Senior Naval Architect
Alex has over 30 years’ experience in marine consultancy, with particular expertise in container shipping, cargo securing and stowage analysis, alongside a broader background in salvage, naval architecture and general engineering.
He has been involved in well over 100 investigations into container stow collapses, combining detailed technical analysis with on-site attendance. This work has established him as a specialist in container-related incidents, including the assessment of securing arrangements and failure mechanisms. His experience also extends to cargo securing for other cargo types, including out of gauge units, flat racks and trailer cargoes.
Alex has supported numerous container vessel cargo cases, including General Average matters, container fires and distressed cargo scenarios. This often involves analysing and interrogating large datasets from BAPLIE files, manifests, packing lists and bills of lading.
He has also undertaken emergency response and salvage work across a range of casualties, including collisions, groundings, structural failures and fires, acting for shipowners, insurers, P&I Clubs and contractors. In addition, he has supported wreck removal projects from tender stage through to completion and previously managed the delivery and approval of loading and stability software.
