Martien has been a Sedgwick colleague for more than 30 years and has previous career experience as a researcher and forensic engineer in the field of structural engineering, specialising in steel structures. As a loss adjuster, he specialises in professional liability claims related to civil engineering and construction, including structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, architecture and water management. Martien also has expertise in claims involving the liability of authorities managing infrastructure such as dykes and polders, as well as construction management. He has handled claims involving the flooding of a village after the collapse of a dyke, collapse of high-rise parking garages, high-rise building design issues for a health authority, design issues with a rail traffic bridge, and has advised a local authority of an unsafe governmental building. Martien is a member of the engineering division of the Dutch Association of Insurers and of a local municipality’s Court of Auditors, where he also served as chairman for several years.
