With the many types of specialty and heavy equipment — and the technology and parts inside them — always evolving, the appraisal process can be challenging. And when new types of equipment are damaged, insurance appraisers must become familiar with all those various parts, the procedures that make them function, and what to look for when completing inspections and estimates.
Planes, trains, automobiles…and more
No matter what the equipment is ― or what happened to it ― having someone who knows exactly how to handle it is key. Sedgwick’s clients know they can expect the utmost care and expertise when they partner with us.
Our colleagues specialize in almost every type of equipment: tractors, combines, fire trucks, helicopters, boats, exotic cars, military equipment, RVs and all-terrain vehicles. Because we’ve handled such a vast array of applicable claims, our collective knowledge ensures an accurate and fair portrayal of the damages.
Repair or replace?
Through our network of highly qualified desk appraisers, we assign a licensed professional to audit received estimates. Appraisers are assigned based on the complexity of the loss, which state the loss occurred in and the type of equipment damaged. When we receive an appraisal, our in-house team makes sure all the parts are included and that it follows the client’s guidelines. We also complete on-site inspections and assist with the appraisal process from start to finish.
Our specialists can then determine if the equipment is salvageable or damaged beyond repair. If the damage is severe, we’ll establish the equipment value and obtain salvage bids. We can also connect clients with our broader team at Sedgwick to investigate causes and explore subrogation as needed.
Addressing market needs
Our experienced colleagues evaluate the scope of damage, determine necessary repairs and write up complete estimates. We can handle assignments that include completing a damage appraisal or desk review, and those involving photos only. Our comprehensive desk review service for specialty and heavy equipment damage is focused on providing quick, accurate estimates.
Specialty and heavy equipment repairs can be costly and making sure damage appraisals are accurate and thorough can help policyholders control claims costs. To provide high quality estimate, it’s important to work with a partner that understands the equipment and how all related parts work together ― and will take the time to review all the details.
