A slow-moving storm drenched the Mid-Atlantic Monday night, causing flash flooding. In New York City, Central Park received 2 inches of rain in an hour. Floodwaters reached the New York subway system, gushing onto platforms and train cars. In New Jersey, roads flooded and submerged vehicles. Pennsylvania reported 7 inches of rain in some areas, and heavy flooding destroyed homes and cars.
According to the National Weather Service, the risk of heavy rainfall and flash floods will continue for the Mid-Atlantic region until mid-week. Additional severe weather and flash flooding threaten the Midwest and Plains over the next couple days.
