A strong earthquake hit Northern California’s Eureka area early Tuesday morning, damaging bridges and roads, toppling walls and chimneys, and cutting off power to thousands in the area.

Initial reports also show damage to the historic Fernbridge that spans over the Eel River, and at least 15 homes have been deemed uninhabitable. Since the initial quake, dozens of aftershocks (some as powerful as 4.6 magnitude), have struck the area.
