States across the U.S. have been hit by severe weather this week, ranging from storms in the East to wildfires in Hawaii and expected storms in the Midwest and South.
On Monday, massive storms spread across 10 eastern states —from Tennessee to New York —touting winds of up to 75 miles per hour, large hail, heavy rain and flooding in some areas. The storm system downed power lines, tore roofs from buildings and felled trees, which crashed into homes and businesses.
Wildfires have been raging across the island of Maui since Wednesday, fed and fanned by extreme drought and hurricane-force winds. Most of the fires across Maui have not been contained, and the full extent of the damage from the wildfires is unknown. As of Thursday morning, hundreds of structures have been damaged, 13,000 people are without power and more than 2,000 people have been displaced.
As we approach the weekend, the National Weather Service is expecting damaging winds, hail, isolated tornadoes and flash floods to hit the Midwest and South, starting Saturday and continuing well into Monday.
