A significant earthquake struck the southern Philippines on Monday (8 June) that reached 7.8 on the magnitude scale. The epicentre was located offshore near Sarangani province, with strong tremors felt across the southern region and a tsunami warning issued across parts of the Philippines and neighbouring countries shortly after.
Rescue efforts continue with severe damage to buildings, roads, power, communications and infrastructure adding to the difficulties — and aftershocks expected throughout the week. Government agencies are assessing the full extent of the damage and coordinating relief efforts.
