Mental health has become a highly discussed issue in today’s society in recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic heightened the attention and brought to light the need for mental health support. President Joe Biden in his State of the Union address in March 2024 emphasized this point reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it had negatively impacted people’s day to day lives, spurring a mental health crisis of isolation and loneliness. In a Forbes article, From Mental Health to Class Solidarity: Workforce Trends to Watch in 2025, Dr. Nicole DeKay, an industrial and organizational psychologist, stated,
“mental health has continued to decline after COVID ended…… We all lived through a collective trauma, and it fundamentally rewired a lot of our nervous systems.”
