Tropical Storm Isaias formed over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday and is forecast to strengthen rapidly. Isaias is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday before approaching the northern Gulf Coast on Friday.
While its exact track remains uncertain, the risk of dangerous wind and storm surge impacts is increasing along portions of the coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. The storm’s wind field could also expand as it approaches land, causing impacts well beyond its center.
From Friday through the weekend, 3 to 6 inches of rain are forecast across the northern Gulf Coast, with localized totals up to 10 inches. Heavy rainfall could extend across the Southeast, creating the potential for flash, urban and isolated river flooding. Dangerous surf and rip currents are also expected along parts of the Gulf Coast.
