Wildfires continue to threaten communities across British Columbia

August 11, 2026
Wildfires continue to threaten communities across British Columbia

Wildfires continue to burn across British Columbia, where emergency crews are responding to rapidly changing conditions and widespread impacts. The province remains under a state of emergency as firefighters battle more than 100 active wildfires, including the fast-moving Bald Range fire in the Okanagan region. More than 20,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes, and officials continue to warn of dangerous fire behavior, ongoing threats to communities and significant property losses.

While several of the current fires have intensified in recent days, wildfire activity has affected parts of British Columbia for weeks. Prolonged drought conditions, high temperatures and strong winds continue to fuel fire growth and challenge suppression efforts across the province. Officials say the situation remains highly dynamic as new evacuations, road closures and response measures evolve.

When disaster strikes, Sedgwick’s experts are ready to respond, 24/7/365.

We’re available to support clients through losses of any size or complexity. Our experienced team responds quickly to assess damages, provide guidance throughout the claims process, and help drive efficient, effective resolutions. Wherever and whenever support is needed, we’re ready to help.

Advanced imagery

Effective CAT claims management starts with a clear understanding of the damage. Our advanced imaging platform combines publicly available street view images with photos of the building taken after the event. By comparing pre- and post-loss conditions, adjusters can more accurately assess the damage and make smarter decisions faster.

Weather and climate data

A CAT event can change in an instant. That’s why we’ve invested in proprietary software that consolidates real-time conditions and climate data —like wind and smoke — from the most trusted weather and mapping information providers. With greater visibility into the latest conditions, adjusters can respond faster and strategically scale their client support when and where it’s needed.

geospatial data and mapping

Geospatial data and mapping

When a natural disaster strikes, every moment counts. Our adjusters use advanced mapping models – powered by geospatial data and API technology – to quickly assess property damage and track fire progression. Having direct access to precise satellite and geographic data, like coordinates and property dimensions, helps them verify claims and even begin remote assessments before an evacuated area is reopened.
