Fast-moving wildfires in Washington have forced approximately 60,000 people to evacuate as multiple large fires continue to sweep across the state.

More than 13,000 acres have burned statewide since Friday, with several fires near the Spokane area still uncontained. At least 700 structures, most of them residential homes, have been damaged or destroyed.

Prolonged drought, low humidity and strong winds continue to fuel fire activity, while smoke is creating dangerous air quality conditions across parts of the Pacific Northwest. Officials warn that the wildfire threat will remain elevated in the days ahead
