Northeast prepares for an early-season nor’easter

A strong coastal storm is expected to develop into an early-season nor’easter, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and rough surf to parts of the Northeast beginning Friday.

Southern New England is expected to face the greatest impacts, with more than 2 inches of rainfall possible across portions of eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Wind gusts could exceed 40 mph along the coast and approach 60 mph across Cape Cod and the islands. Coastal flooding and beach erosion are also possible through the weekend as persistent northeast winds coincide with elevated tides. Forecast details, including the storm’s track and intensity, remain subject to change.
