Winter Storm Fern expected to hit the U.S.

Winter Storm Fern is expected to sweep across the South, Midwest and Northeast this Friday through Monday, bringing a disruptive mix of heavy snow and damaging ice. Forecasters warn that more than 180 million people could be affected during this multi-day event. 

Ice buildup will be substantial across a broad stretch of the South — from parts of Texas through the Carolinas — enough to shut down roads, snap tree limbs and cause widespread power outages.

Farther north, the potential for heavy snow is growing along the Northeast Corridor and in Southern New England. These regions could see several inches of snowfall throughout the weekend, damaging infrastructure and creating dangerous travel conditions.
