A powerful nor’easter rapidly intensified overnight Monday, dumping heavy snow across the Northeast and placing more than 40 million people under blizzard warnings.
Snowfall rates have reached 2 to 3 inches per hour, with some areas already reporting 18 to 24 inches of accumulation. Strong wind gusts up to 70 mph have reduced visibility to near zero in some locations, closing schools, grounding flights and knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses.
Multiple states have since declared emergencies, with non‑essential travel bans in place until the storm begins to taper off Monday afternoon.
