Since Wednesday, 7 January 2026, Victoria has been experiencing severe bushfires that have caused widespread damage and disruption across the state. The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has declared this a Significant Event, activating preliminary catastrophe processes to support insurers and impacted communities. This event may be escalated to an Insurance Catastrophe if claim numbers or complexity increase significantly.
