New division will support clients dealing with skills shortages and increases in claims volumes

London, 30 November 2022 – Sedgwick, a leading global provider of technology-enabled risk, benefits and integrated business solutions, has announced the launch of resource solutions for the UK market. The business unit draws on Sedgwick’s experience and technical expertise, leveraging its well-trained colleagues to help clients with both temporary and permanent placements across various claims-handling divisions.

Post-COVID increases in claims volumes and skill shortages in the market have put significant strain on business capacity. Sedgwick’s service provides our clients with resources who have the requisite industry knowledge and technical skills.

The solution was initially developed at the end of the first quarter of 2022, following demand from clients needing immediate and short to medium term support for processing claims and responding to customers. Today, resource solutions is able to place our own colleagues temporarily with clients, and additionally, we have established a recruitment agency service. Our experienced recruitment consultants source and place candidates permanently with clients, meaning we can help them address both short-term and permanent capacity issues. We are currently the only claims management company offering this service within the insurance sector.

“Our resources team can provide both temporary and permanent solutions for our clients,” said Adam Baylis, Sedgwick head of UK resource solutions. “With regard to permanent solutions, our excellence in claims management has prepared us well to handle the hiring of claims, loss adjusting and other specialty resources. This gives us a distinct, strategic advantage over general staffing agencies.

“A key advantage for firms who need temporary solutions is in the risk mitigation. We cover colleague employment costs meaning clients can turn the tap on and off as dictated by the demands of their business,” Baylis said. “Our secondees are highly motivated by the varied client portfolios they enjoy, and the expansive knowledge this experience affords them serves to protect and enhance our clients’ reputations.

Since the development phase, the Sedgwick resource solutions team in the UK has grown from nine to 24 members. The initiative has been shortlisted for recognition by the Institute of Customer Services UK Customer Satisfaction Awards for the best return on customer service investment.

“The timing is now right to firmly establish Sedgwick’s resource solutions,” said Paul White, Sedgwick CEO in the UK. “As the claims environment evolves and client demand in this field grows, we needed a long-term approach to maximise this opportunity. It’s part of our growth and diversification strategy to protect colleagues and businesses — now and in the future.”
