Colleague engagement

Caring starts with our colleagues.

We strive every day to ensure they have a world-class colleague experience that demonstrates how much we value their unique contributions. The colleague experience is one of our guiding principles, and we’re specifically focused on the areas of well-being, connectedness and growth.

Well-being

We provide our colleagues with a total rewards package that includes compensation, PTO, health benefits, retirement planning and more, and it supports the four key areas of their well-being: mental, physical, financial and professional. We made changes to our health benefits in 2023 to ensure we’re offering our colleagues and their families the right resources for their total well-being. For U.S. colleagues, we added a new cost-transparency medical plan, LGBTQ+ virtual provider network and advocacy team, virtual physical therapy and significantly enhanced our paid parental leave program to provide more bonding time for new parents. We continue to prioritize mental wellness for our colleagues by providing a variety of mental health programs that meet the immediate needs of our workforce and in a format that works best for them.

Connectedness

At Sedgwick, we show we care by living our core values and making sure they guide our behaviors and decisions. In 2023, we introduced our CARING model, which outlines specific behaviors that colleagues, people leaders and senior leaders should exhibit to align with our culture and caring counts philosophy. These behaviors have been integrated into our hiring and talent management practices such as interviews, performance reviews, rewards/recognition, leadership development and succession planning.

In addition to our ongoing focus on our CARING model, our annual CARING week connects colleagues around the globe to celebrate our core values and the colleagues who embrace them in their daily work.

Growth

We know that continued learning and growth is important to our colleagues, and it’s important to us. We’re committed to helping colleagues grow personally and professionally on an ongoing basis, so they can realize new possibilities. In 2023, we expanded Sedgwick University, our in-house training and development offering. In addition to providing tuition reimbursement, professional certifications and over 10,000 online resources like courses, videos and audiobooks, we now offer a Leadership academy for current and aspiring leaders. We also celebrated growth in our second-annual Growth Week, where we provide a fun and exciting week full of opportunities for colleagues to learn, develop, innovate and get inspired. For Growth Week 2023, we hosted 25 live sessions with guest speakers and leaders across the organization and the globe. In total, there were over 10,000 course views during this week

World-class onboarding experience

We’ve enhanced our onboarding experience to make it even more consistent, positive and focused on colleague well-being, connectedness and growth. At each milestone of a new colleague’s journey – day one, week one, month one, month three, month six and one year – we provide them with intentional experiences including communications, tools, resources and connection opportunities. We also provide resources for people leaders at each milestone to ensure they are equipped to successfully welcome new colleagues.

Colleague listening

Hearing from colleagues directly is crucial in determining our strengths and areas of opportunity. That’s why regular colleague feedback is so important to us at Sedgwick. We check in with our colleagues in short “pulse” surveys throughout the year and evaluate feedback across the total colleague life cycle so we can consider enhancements to the holistic colleague experience. In 2023, we enhanced our colleague-listening strategy to include milestones within a new colleague’s first year at Sedgwick. Our newly hired colleagues continue to be very highly engaged, with an average engagement score of 92% for their first year.

We recognize good work when we see it

We want our colleagues to feel recognized and appreciated from different levels of the organization – from the entire company as a whole, down to their peers and immediate supervisor. In 2023, Sedgwick launched a new global rewards and recognition program called Props, where colleagues can give recognition, get recognition and choose their rewards. With Props, colleagues at all levels can celebrate each other by recognizing any action – big or small – that contributed to a job well done. We launched this program in direct response to colleague feedback requesting more opportunities to recognize others and be recognized
