Major + complex loss
Our major and complex loss team brings expertise, experience, world-class advice and cost-effective, fair claims handling to get your business up and running as quickly as possible.
What we do
Sedgwick employs the most experienced, technically proficient and customer-focused adjusters in the major and complex loss (MCL) sector.
Customers who are suffering from a major incident are in their time of need — and Sedgwick’s major and complex loss team is here to help. Our specialists — renowned for their service and for getting clients back to business as soon as possible — work tirelessly to deliver what our clients expect.
Across the commercial major loss area, Sedgwick’s expertise and experience are unparalleled in the UK market. With 160 colleagues dedicated to major and complex losses, our adjusting team has the scale and flexibility to handle singular incidents, widespread events with multiple major losses and devastating mega losses.
And of course, our clients benefit from that collaborative approach as well. We’re committed to working together to ensure each service provided meets existing — and future — needs.
Delivering exceptional service and outcomes for our clients throughout the UK and around the world.
We’ll develop practical solutions that enable businesses to safely resume operations quickly — while containing claims spend and costs.
With the support of Sedgwick’s global network, we are able to rapidly respond to any loss situation, assist in loss mitigation, identify critical issues and drive the business recovery process.
Proactive loss management
Whatever the circumstance of the loss, we’ll consider all parties involved with one common goal: the successful resolution of the claim in the shortest time frame possible.
By understanding and consistency meeting our clients’ needs, we strive to build integrity and trust — and to give our clients confidence that, with Sedgwick, they have the right team for the job.
Agriculture and rural network
Global agriculture encompasses all animal production and produce, crop production, rural activities, and a major part of the worldwide distribution channels for supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience stores and e-commerce. Our agriculture team also incorporates aquaculture, forestry and equine specialisms. Our team is based in relevant local markets and work across all sectors of the agricultural world. We partner with underwriters, brokers and claims staff to provide specific advice, sector insight, product development opinion and training.
We can also provide a focal point for London market overseas risks. To ensure high-quality management and continuity of reporting on claims outside the UK, our adjusters are supported by cutting-edge technology and the unrivalled expertise of our specialist agricultural team.
Construction and engineering
Our construction and engineering specialists have been retained as nominated adjusters on some of the largest and most technically complicated construction and civil engineering projects around the world. Our specialisms include major construction all risks (CAR) and erection all risks (EAR) projects, and our teams have worked on a wide variety of infrastructure initiatives.
Cyber and technology
Technology exposures — some less obvious than others — can range from loss of data and key infrastructure to unauthorised system access. The loss of telecommunications can also significantly impact a business, and needs a ‘fit for purpose’ adjusting solution.
With decades of experience dealing with technology, communication and cyber claims, our dedicated team of worldwide, multi-disciplined experts understand technology, communication and cyber-related issues. We can work independently or as part of your existing team to explore the reasons behind complex failures and offer solutions.
The effects from environmental losses can vary from limited local damage, such as domestic oil spills to worldwide cross-border disruptions resulting from air or water contamination. Clean-up measures may be minimal or have huge financial consequences, and remediation can take anywhere from days to years.
Our environmental team is made up of experts within this complex field who have a wealth of experience in understanding local laws and policy nuances to ensure swift identification of cause, liability and remediation options. We are able to handle all types and sizes of environmental losses quickly and cost effectively – wherever they occur — to help get businesses back on track as soon as possible.
Many parties in multiple locations are involved in the supply chain, often with conflicting interests. On top of that, the shipping and storage of goods is subject to complicated national and international rules and regulations. Our global marine specialists can handle all manner of marine claim needs, from a single local incident to fully serviced global accounts and catastrophe events.
Containing over 200 colleagues, our team is a centre of excellence for all things marine-related, always collaborating about the most efficient ways to handle complex cases, sharing best practice and professional knowledge, and providing a consistently high level of service and standards across the world.
Power and energy
Power and energy claims present many challenges, including a complex infrastructure and diverse range of complicated equipment, expensive machinery, business interruption issues and extensive lead times for repairs and/or replacements. As a leading global provider of claims management and loss adjusting solutions, we provide the necessary expertise to help clients manage and resolve these challenging claims.
With specialists spanning the globe, our geographical coverage means that our teams understand the culture and industry regulations where our clients operate. We combine our international experience with local expertise to provide professional advice together with recommendations and long-term solutions.
We handle claims portfolios for several clients in building warranty and latent defects, giving us the critical mass to provide a varied team of experts. We manage the entire claims process — from initial inspection, cause diagnosis and proactive management of pre-contract activities, to quantum and specification assessment through to final settlement.
Our intricate understanding of the provisions of building guarantee and latent defects covers, allows early identification of over-design with consequent control of indemnity spend.
Media and entertainment
Our extensive knowledge of specialist media equipment, production processes and the global entertainment and media business means we know exactly how to handle each claim and bring them to a prompt settlement. We handle claims arising from production companies, advertising agencies, outside broadcasting, theatre, technical equipment suppliers, rental companies, music festivals, and live events.
